Local Lodge 837B typically holds their monthly meeting on the 2nd Sunday of each month at 2:00 P. M. All Local Lodge members are encouraged to attend every meeting possible and can bring family or guests to the meeting. (Note: On very rare occasion, the Executive Board may require all non-members to leave the meeting for a period of time that requires and allows only Local Lodge members in Good Standing to be present at.) During the regular monthly meeting, the affairs of the Lodge are reviewed by the membership. These affairs, as mandated by the IAMAW Constitution and Local Lodge By-Laws include a review of previous month's minutes, the financial report assessing the health of the Lodge finances, communications received for the month, and Executive Board Recommendations for the membership to vote on. At every meeting, the Lodge also listens to reports from various Committee chairpersons or members that educate the assembled crowd in a wide variety of topics. Several of District 837's Staff is present to give Business Representative reports, Financial Secretary Reports, and the District's President - Directing Business Representatives Report. Members are encouraged to ask questions or give information to the District Officers at this time to ensure that our members have direct communication with the District Staff. The Lodge opens the floor up to all members who wish to speak under good of the order. This is a time for any member that wishes to inform or educate those gathered on any topic that may be of interest to others. Speakers have touched on topics ranging from Social Security Reform, political points of view, health and safety information, to what is happening in aerospace beyond our city and in the Labor movement. The floor is then opened for any member or the Executive Board to discuss old or unfinished business and propose new business that may require a vote from the membership. Another great activity that occurs in most meetings is the chance to congratulate new Retirees for the month. It is a great honor to hear from those retiring on their years of service and any special remarks they wish to make. Just before closing, attendance prizes are drawn from the cards of those members in attendance. After the conclusion of formal business, everyone is welcome to enjoy the wonderful food and beverages provided by prepared by volunteers from the Lodge. Any special prize drawings from recognized charitable events, such as Guide dogs of America, are announced and the Lodge remains open for time to enjoy the fellowship of their union brothers and sisters and their families or guests.
