Want to promote positive changes in America's Economy? The Unionized Workforce does just that. In a time when our workers are being attacked on every front, it is up to the you to fight for economic justice and social equality. The first step is to let your Union know of someone in a non-union shop that is interested in learning how the IAM can help. You Can't Keep a Good Machinist Down...
How Brothers Terneus and Richardson Helped Save Brother Schafer's Life

Local Lodge 837B Trustee

Gary Ford

Gary Ford joined the Machinists Union in 1985 after hiring into the McDonnell-Douglas Corporation as a General Machinist in building 27. He has volunteered his time to assist in many Lodge and District functions because he believes that it is only through the hard work of the rank and file members that this Union can succeed at its many goals for the membership.

Ford is now employed by the GKN Company and understands the frustrations many of the people are experiencing with the Company. Gary is committed to correcting the problems on a day to day basis and has a desire to ensure the next contract will make life in that Company better for everyone.

Ford has served the membership by serving on the By-Laws Committee, Entertainment Committee, Missouri State Council of Machinists, and Mid-West States Council of Machinists. Ford has been a Shop Steward for 6 1/2 years and was elected as Local Lodge 837B Trustee in 2001. Gary fills in as Acting Plant chairman when requested and this experience has given him valuable insight into the needs of the membership. Ford uses this knowledge to promote positive change in the District and Local Lodges.

Gary believes that education is important for the membership and for its leaders. He received a degree from Jefferson College in 1983 for Machine Tool Technology. Gary attended Shop Steward Training to learn how to better serve his constituents. Since beginning his involvement in the Union, Gary has successfully completed Leadership I, Leadership II, and Collective Bargaining at the IAM Winpisinger Training Facility. This training has given him the skills and techniques necessary to prepare and present the issues that are important to negotiating procedures.

Gary is married to Susan Ford and has two daughters. His daughters are in college, one pursuing Music Therapy and the other pursuing a Legal Degree. Gary resides in Festus, Mo and he enjoys golf, bowling, hunting, and riding ATV's in his off time.
