Want to promote positive changes in America's Economy? The Unionized Workforce does just that. In a time when our workers are being attacked on every front, it is up to the you to fight for economic justice and social equality. The first step is to let your Union know of someone in a non-union shop that is interested in learning how the IAM can help. You Can't Keep a Good Machinist Down...
How Brothers Terneus and Richardson Helped Save Brother Schafer's Life

Local Lodge 837B President

John DeWitt Darity

DeWitt Darity began his career with the IAM after joining the union in 1987. DeWitt hired into McDonnell Douglas that year as a Mechanical Electrical Assembler. DeWitt transferred into inspection as a Mechanical-Electrical and Radio Inspector in 1989, later that same year he began his career serving this membership as a Union Steward.

DeWitt served the District in this capacity as a Shop Steward for over 12 years. In 2001 he was elected to his current position as a Plant Chairman and also participated in the 2001 and 2004 Boeing negotiations. DeWitt is currently Lodge B President and during his career, he has served the membership as Lodge B Vice-President and District Co-Chairperson of the Legislative Committee.

Darity graduated from North County High School (Desloge Mo.) in 1982. He Joined the United States Marine Corps and served from 1983-1987 as an Electronics Countermeasures Mechanic for VMAQ-2 an EA-6B Prowler squadron. Throughout his career with the IAM Darity has continually taken the opportunity to further his education in order to better serve the membership. He completed his undergraduate Degree in Human Resources from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri in 1997.

In 2001 Darity completed Leadership I from the Winpisinger Training Center in Maryland and received a certificate of completion from the University of Missouri Labor Education Program for the Third Annual Arbitration Institute. In April 2004 he received his Masters degree through the University of Phoenix, with the strong belief that the information he harnessed from these institutions of learning can and will enhance his ability towards providing fair representation for all the union members he is proud to serve.

DeWitt lives outside of Warrenton, Missouri with his wife and their two young boys.  His interests outside of the union include being the treasurer for the property owners where he lives, coaching his two boys baseball team, weight lifting, hunting, fishing, golfing and of course spending quality time with his family.
